VTG Electric Zebco Omega 154 Fishing Reel John' for the disabled by A-dec Mfg RA

By A-dec a leading mfg. The reel is a Zebco Omega 154 Reel used in the making of the John's Reel manufactured by A-dec Inc. They are located in Oregon and have been in business at the same location since 1967. I have no idea how this reel came about. By their website, they only mention the making of dental chairs, hand pieces etc.

Looking at this reel, it shows the very high quality used in the making of this reel, just like medical equipment quality. Everything is functioning as it should. This was my uncle's reel, he had a stroke in his 50's that resulted in the use of only one arm. The original invoice, instructions etc. John's Reel is a motorized, closed-face spinning reel with two retraction speeds. Intended for one-handed use by the disabled fisherman. It consists of a Zebco 154 reel, modified to accept a powerful gear-motor and two speed control switch. Power from the motor is transmitted from the motor to the reel mechanism by a timing belt. Electric power for the reel is supplied by a 6v battery carried in a comfortable waist belt. Also supplied to complete the unit, is a 6 volt charger.
